Sewing machine needles

Sewing machine needlesSewing machine needles are, along with thread, the most important part of a sewing machine. How much do you really know about sewing machine needles? Did you know, for instance, that sewing machine needles come in sizes from 9-18? The smaller the number, the smaller the sewing machine needle. The majority of sewing machine needles that you will need to use will be around 11-14 – the other sizes are generally used for special projects (small sewing machine needles are used on sheer fabrics, and large sewing machine needles are used on heavyweight fabrics). Besides the size of sewing machine needles, you also get to choose between different shapes of sewing machine needles. For instance, a wedge-point sewing machine needle is used to sew leathers (it creates a slit, not a hole).
